Hiking is always a pleasure, but in autumn it gets simply fabulous! Whether you tackle the high-altitude trails or make your way through the gold and orange expanses down in the valley, you’re in for a first-class natural spectacle.

 

Soak up the autumn sun and listen to the leaves crunching under your feet or wheels… There are many walks and bike tours you can choose to explore the colourful South Tyrolean landscape.

 

But there’s more to Villnöss than just beautiful panoramas: your autumn break comes with a cultural slant and a touch of culinary indulgence, too! Treat yourself to the traditional Törggelen experience: walk along historical paths and stop by at local taverns to explore the typical seasonal dishes.

The Dolomites UNESCO Infopoint is located by the Zanseralm car park, right at the foot of the breathtaking Geisler mountains. Seeing the majestic peaks reach up to the sky, one can’t but wonder: how did nature paint this masterpiece? The exhibition will let you in on the secrets hidden in these ancient rocks, offering you not just interesting facts delivered with charm and wit, but also reason to smile and marvel. Dive into the exciting history of the Dolomites!

The farmers’ trail follows the historic footpaths that used to connect the farms of Coll with the village’s school and church. Walking past authentic farmsteads, charming rural chapels and old wayside crosses will offer you an immersion into the local culture and lore.

Walk in the footsteps of mountain pioneers on the Adolf Munkel trail – one of the most impressive hiking trails in the Dolomites. In autumn, this path skirting the foot of the imposing Geisler north face transforms into a natural spectacle with a triumph of bright colours. The starting point is by the Zanser Alm car park, which is easily reached by public transport. Starting from there, take path No. 6 to Brogles Alm, then path No. 35 all the way to the Ranui car park (path No. 28). This stretch takes approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes to complete. Alternatively, you can take a shorter route that leads to Gschnagenhardtalm and  Geisleralm (path No. 35), then on to the Dusleralm on path no. 36 and back to Zans, for a total walking time of approximately 3 hours.

When autumn bathes Villnöss in gold, the valley turns into a culinary hotspot. The Lamb Weeks is an event organised every October, revolving around the Villnöss Brillenschaf sheep and lamb-based culinary specialities offered by the inns and partner businesses that participate in the initiative.
